unforgettable holidays in Brittany / vacances inoubliables en bretagne

Welcome to our holiday cottages in beautiful Southern Brittany, 20km west of Pontivy in the peaceful, rural hamlet of Bot Coët. Set in 2.5 acres of land and surrounded by woodland, fields and quiet country lanes, our cottages are an ideal location to escape from the pressures of work and everyday life and to recharge the batteries. In addition to our three charming holiday cottages, we also have a heated swimming pool, games room with pool table, ping pong and many other games, a boule court, and beautiful landscaped gardens and grounds.

We look forward to welcoming you to our cottages.

Carolynn and Richard Biggs

WHAT IS THERE TO DO?

Heated swimming pool, games room, boule court and gardens

Each cottage has its own private garden with outdoor furniture and barbeque to make the most of the sunny weather. We also have landscaped gardens and grounds to be enjoyed by all our guests. Our beautiful swimming pool is the focal point of the garden (shared by the cottages). The pool is usually heated from May to September, depending on the weather. We also have a picnic area near the pool, set in a walled garden with views across open countryside.

In our separate games room, you can enjoy table tennis, pool, table football, darts and many other outdoor games. To experience real French life, we also have a boule court in the garden with a beautiful view over open fields. Beyond the boule court, is our large lawned area for football and badminton, or for just ‘letting off steam’!

You can book a single cottage, or all three together, so families and friends can share wonderful holidays, but still have their own private space. Sorry, but we do not accept pets or parties.

Where are the cottages?

Our cottages are approximately 3km outside historic Guemene Sur Scorff with many shops, bars and restaurants. Guemene is a typical breton town, famous as the capital of the Andouille Sausage (an acquired taste!) with the remains of the town walls and historic gate to the town. Our nearest bigger town, about 20km away, is Pontivy, with its chateau and medieval streets, plus wide napoleonic boulevards and the beautiful river Blavet running through the centre.

Notre endroit

What is included?

We do not charge extras - all bed linen, towels, (not beach) gas and electricity are included in the price. Beds are made up on arrival. Logs are supplied for the woodburner in Alice.  Final cleaning is also included, but we do ask you to please leave the cottage clean and tidy when you leave.

All cottages have wifi, and television, DVD player and a selection of DVDs.  In the gites, we have numerous books, and many family games and puzzles to while away the evenings. We have travel cots and high chairs if required - just let us know.

Very sorry, but our cottages are not specifically suited to people with disabilities – bedrooms and bathrooms are upstairs (we do have full size stairs in each cottage).

We have our own separate car park at the gites.

Caring for our environment

We encourage recycling here at Bot Coët, with the local recycling scheme; we also have compost heaps for waste, and recycle bottles in our veg patch. We are lucky to have source water, from a local spring, which we use for our vegetables and gardens and we use wood from our field for the log fire in Alice. All our cleaning and related products are environmentally friendly as we have a septic tank.

Our gites are very rural – perfect to explore on foot or by bike – there are many beautiful local walks from the door, but we also have walking books for you to borrow if you want to explore further afield.

Our area/dans notre région

Our holiday cottages are surrounded by beautiful woodland walks, open farmland and country lanes which are ideally suited to cycling and walking.  But the local area has so much to offer for all tastes – from water sports and bike hire, to beautiful historic buildings; from the peaceful canals and local rivers, to the bustling seaside; from tranquil rural villages, to lovely local towns with so many choices of cafes and restaurants, and with the stunning unspoilt islands off the coast just an easy day trip away.

We’re sure you will quickly fall in love with this very special and peaceful part of France.

If you want to venture further afield, here are just a few suggestions to explore while staying in Brittany.

G8.jpg

St Nicolas des Eaux in early spring time – a perfect spot for a quiet drink or meal in the peaceful canal-side cafes and restaurants, a wander along the tow path, or to hire a canoe or kayak to paddle up the canal.

G9.jpg

Auray (pictured in spring time) is one of many local beautiful towns to wander round and explore, with cafes and restaurants clustered around the lovely old port, so many art galleries, and peaceful cobbled streets.

G11.jpg

The medieval town of Pontivy is about 20 minutes away. Situated on the banks of the river Blavet, the 15th century castle sits at the heart of the old town with its winding cobbled streets, and contrasts with the newer part of the town which was designed by Napoleon. Pontivy has a wide range of shops, cafés and restaurants – in short it has something for everyone. Beautiful walks along the canal, or hire a canoe or kayak (in summer) to explore from a different perspective.

G10.jpg

The Lac De Guerledan is a large, freshwater lake, c30 mins away with sandy beaches dotted around, making it ideal for families. Pedaloes, canoes, rowing boats, stand up paddle and kayaks can also be hired. Fishing and water skiing are also popular activities. On land, there are many beautiful walks and cycle routes (bike hire available).

There are of course also many restaurants and cafes overlooking the lake, making the most of the stunning scenery.

G15.jpg

If beaches are your thing, you’ll be spoiled for choice – Larmor Plage (pictured) is our nearest beach (c40 mins away), with cafes, bars, restaurants and of course the beach. Along the coast is Guidel Plage – a stunning sandy beach which stretches for miles. With lovely beaches, coves and picturesque views it has everything from rock pools, to parts where it is safe to surf. Something for all the family.

For those interested in history and culture there are again so many choices – from the beautiful Abbey de Bon Repos (pictured in autumn), to the castle at Josselin, living history at Poul Fetan and the Forge des Salles, and the many small towns and villages with historic buildings and churches.

Going back even earlier in time, the area is dotted with prehistoric sites, with numerous menhirs and dolmen and the world famous mysterious stone alignments (over 3,800 stones) at Carnac
